In Spain cycling is one of the main national sports (La Vuelta is the 3rd most prestigious bike race in the world) and you will see hoards of cyclists taking to the roads, especially at the weekends and fiesta days. It is a family sport and people of all ages can be seen on the roads, cycle tracks and even the service roads running along the sides of motorways.
Cyclists in Spain would appear to have the priority on the road and certainly in our experience Spanish drivers will slow down and give the cyclist a wide berth particularly on narrow country roads.

The Costa Calida is an ideal region to discover on a bike and has hundreds of miles of off road trails and routes throughout the countryside, away from the busy coastal areas for road bikes as well as mountain bikes. The Mazarron Country Club is is an excellent starting point as it is surrounded by brilliant countryside that is ideal for Mountain Biking. Turn left and your heading for rolling hills, villages and off road dirt tracks. Turn right and its 35 minute to the coast. The Sierra Espuna offers some of the best mountain biking in Europe with a huge network of fire trails and single tracks
